On Friday i took a trip to London Gatwick with Flybe for the weekend. The aim of this was to go to Zurich for the WEF, will explain what went wrong there in a minute. First of all me and my dad parked up at sentinel, jumped into the minivan and they took us to the entrance of LBA. Me being on crutch’s and not being able to walk far we walked into the terminal and got stopped by the special assistance. Asked if we were flying to Gatwick without us saying a word, how about that for service! They told us to go through to departures as normal and they would find us. I hopped through security, letting me use the fast track to jump the que’s and make the walking distance smaller for me. Me and my dad then sat down and he had a couple of pints (lucky thing). Mr Tom Morley then made a appearance, turns out he was dispatching my flight, i was down for a wheelchair, i don’t think so haha! The guy then found me from special assistance and took me to the gate where we waiting for everyone else to board then made our way through via the lift down to the aircraft. G-ECOZ was the frame down to LGW. Tom then gave his last figures to the pilots and i gave him a cheeky wave hehe. We took off on Runway 32 and headed south. While in flight we got talking to one of the airhostess’s, turns out it was being operated by a ex BA Connect crew who are based in Manchester, she called the Embraer 145 a Barbie jet, a new one for me! She then asked me if i would like to go into cockpit after landing and have a look, of course i snapped up the chance. Was a beautiful flight down to LGW, we flew over LHR and LGW before landing on 26L. The first aircraft to be seen was G-CELS on the ground, talk about getting away from LBA!! We parked up on stand 5 at LGW and then got told you can look in the cockpit. Me being excited and all i rushed down the alley on 1 leg. I met both the pilots , shuck their hands and they gave me a little tour of what i could see, they then asked for questions. My dad asked the lease with Olympic, was it voluntary? The co-pilot told us it was and he plans to go there next year hopefully to get a tan, the girls and oh yer, the flying! After that they was a mini bus waiting for me to take me to the terminal, i jumped on and had a little tour around LGW before reaching south terminal entrance airside. I crutched into the building and they was a little buggy waiting for me. I hopped on and it took me all the way through baggage and passports and dropped me off at Marks and Spencer’s for some tea! Me and my dad was very very impressed with the service flybe had given me, specially looking in the cockpit because many times i have been refused this! We then got the bus to the Travelodge for the night.

Saturday started with my alarm clock going off, waking my dad up at 4am for his flight to Zurich. We got in touch with Easyjet and they couldn’t give us a definite answer about me flying there with a broken foot, so i decided to stop and meet my friends for some photography at LGW instead. First is the photo log from Saturday at LGW and then my dads little photo log from his ramp tour at Zurich, jelous!

We then went into the terminal and sat in franky’s and benny’s airside, if your a reg collecter this is perfect as you get a view of the whole ramp and stuff landing. I was chatting to Ben and Nick here and they gave me heads up of a DC-8 going OTT, niiceeee!!!! Flight back was on G-JECJ and departed on time, after someone wheel chaired me too the aircraft. From the air could be seen LGW/LHR/LTN (that looked busy!) and EMA. A brilliant weekend for both me and my dad, flybe where spot on with there service and i do recommend you to fly down to LGW with them, well worth the £50 return!

Hope you enjoyed this read

Regards

Danny
